Transportation Safety
The Institute of Public Law (IPL) has partnered with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) for more than two decades to provide programs for driver education instructors, DWI School instructors, prosecutors, law enforcement, and government agency staff, through the Traffic Safety Education Center.
The institute reviews, manages and monitors the licensing for DWI Schools, Drivers Safety Schools, Drivers Training Schools and programs, and instructors through the Traffic Safety Licensing Center.

Educator Training
The Institute provides certification and recertification training for educators who teach driver education, DWI school and drivers improvement classes.

Licensing & Certification of Traffic Safety Bureau Programs
On behalf of the Traffic Safety Bureau, the Institute reviews applications for licenses for Ignition Interlock Service Centers, DWI Schools, Driver's Education Schools, and Driving Safety Schools.

Motorcycle Safety Awareness Day
Since 1999, the Institute has sponsored, with our partners at the New Mexico Traffic Safety Bureau, Motorcycle Safety Awareness Day. The purpose is to remind the public and the motorcycling public to safely share the road with motorycles.
NM Transportation Safety Law Center
The New Mexico DOT Traffic Safety Bureau and the UNM Institute of Public Law work together to develop programs, research legal issues in traffic safety and assist New Mexico communities in developing programs to reduce DWI. The Institute writes and publishes newsletters and other materials on traffic safety, aviation and driver education. Under a federal grant administered by the Bureau, IPL provides education for prosecutors, judges, community leaders and police officers on DWI prosecution and sentencing.

Prosecutor Training
Prosecutors are trained periodically on updates in the law of DWI and other traffic related issues. These programs are fully accredited and CLE credits will apply.
Traffic Citations Benchbook
The purpose of the Traffic Citations Manual is to provide courts of limited jurisdiction with a comprehensive resource guide for handling all types of traffic citations cases, except for DWI cases. It is also available on the web. The web version has interactive tutorials on forms.

TSB Monitoring Project
On behalf of the Traffic Safety Bureau, the Institute conducts quality assurance visits to all state licensed and funded traffic safety programs.
