Children's Law Projects

Child Abuse and Neglect Core Curriculum
In partnership with the Court Improvement Project, the CLC is developing a core curriculum for judges and attorneys new to child abuse and neglect cases. We plan to conduct training based on this curriculum on a regular basis.
Child Welfare Handbook
The CLC and the Judicial Education Center at IPL collaborate to produce and update the New Mexico Child Welfare Handbook, a legal manual on child abuse and neglect. Available on-line and in print, the Child Welfare Handbook serves as a benchbook for judges and a handbook for attorneys, lay advocates, social workers, foster parents, and others working in this field in our state. Children's Law Institute
The CLC is a key participant in the Children's Law Institute held in Albuquerque every January. A cornerstone of New Mexico's child welfare community, the multi-disciplinary Children's Law Institute draws over 500 attendees each year.
Children's Law Regional Cross-Training
The CLC collaborates with the Court Improvement Project and the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department to develop regional multi-disciplinary cross-training programs in locations around the state.
Juvenile Justice Training for Prosecutors and Defense Counsel
The CLC conducted a joint training program for prosecutors and juvenile defenders in cooperation with the state Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, and plans are underway to conduct a second session. We are looking to expand our offerings in the area of juvenile justice.
Training for Attorneys for Parents and for Children
The CLC conducts advanced training programs for attorneys in New Mexico who represent parents in child abuse and neglect cases and will be developing programming for attorneys who represent children in these cases.
