Alternate Dispute Resolution The Institute of Public Law (IPL) recognizes and promotes the value of alternative dispute resolution. Mediation provides a process for the parties to resolve disputes themselves, often producing more satisfactory outcomes than litigation, and reducing the volume of cases decided by a judge or jury.
Through our Judicial Education Center (JEC), we provide training and resource materials to volunteers who serve as unpaid mediators for civil cases filed in their communities magistrate courts. JEC also offers an online course designed to teach judges and court staff about alternative dispute resolution and encourage adoption of appropriate programs in courts throughout the state.
