Driving While Impaired (DWI)
Driving while impaired is one of the state's most serious challenges. The Institute of Public Law (IPL) works with the state's Traffic Safety Bureau of the Department of Transportation to provide information to the public, teachers, law enforcement, state agencies, judges and anyone else who is interested in getting accurate information about the law, rules and programs designed to bring down the incidence of this dangerous crime.
When New Mexico became the first state in the nation to enact a law requiring ignition interlock on the vehicles of everyone convicted of DWI, IPL joined a team of state agencies to ensure the transition to the new law went smoothly.
We provide intensive training on DWI to members of the state judiciary through our Judicial Education Center (JEC). This DWI educational programming includes statewide conferences, regional seminars, reference materials and interactive online resources.
