| Wild Friends Dancers Honor Whooping Crane by Lorin Saint Morgan The Wild Friends Dancers had a wonderful 1997 performance year. During February, the annual "Legislature Presentation" was performed in the beautiful capitol rotunda. The group of fourteen 7 to 14 year-olds were pleasantly received by an enthusiastic audience -- including the Wild Friends HB 249 sponsor, Rep. Mimi Stewart. She is quoted as saying, "Wow! They really are fantastic!" Following their performance of "Journey of the Whooping Crane" they were invited to perform a shorter version in the House Appropriations Committee to celebrate Rep. Max Coll's birthday! In addition, some dancers testified before the committee on behalf of HB 249. The dancers presented their Whooping Crane dance to the 1997 SW District Association of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Annual Convention. The dance troupe received many "bravos" from audience members, who not only loved the piece, but also admired the students for their work in spreading awareness concerning New Mexico's wildlife. This talented group will be looking forward to a very exciting 1998!
