Licensing and Certification

The Institute of Public Law (IPL) manages the licensing process for several programs of the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Bureau IPL staff review and evaluate original and renewal applications for licensure and certification from driver education and DWI schools throughout the state.

Licensing and Certification Projects

Correspondence Driver Education Program
IPL staff ensure that state procedures are followed in the approval process for home-schooled students (or students who do not have reasonable access to driver education training) to participate in a correspondence driver education program.
Monitoring Programs
IPL manages a monitoring program to recognize successfully operating programs and to correct rule violations. Our staff conduct site visits to traffic safety programs, and submit written reports to the relevant program managers and licensing staff. Based on findings, the relevant program manager and licensing staff may take administrative action to correct deficiencies and bring the program into compliance whenever possible.
