The Institute of Public Law (IPL) is the primary public service arm of the University of New Mexico School of Law. It promotes excellence in government through research, publishing, education and policy analysis in the law. Through partnerships with government and private sources, IPL fosters professionalism and innovation in public policy in our state and nation.
IPL includes the Corinne Wolfe Children’s Law Center, the Rozier E. Sanchez Judicial Education Center, the Transportation Safety Law Center, the Center for Wildlife Law, and the Government Law Center. Our experienced team of attorneys, educators, meeting planners, writers, web developers and program administrators have accrued extensive expertise in numerous public interest areas that affect our state and nation. Some examples include:

IPL funding derives from contracts with public agencies, direct legislative appropriations, foundation grants, federal grants and contracts, and financial and in-kind support from the University of New Mexico and the School of Law. Our current annual budget of nearly $4 million supports a staff of over 45 full-time, part-time, and on-call employees.
IPL partners have included: New Mexico Departments of Transportation, Environment, Health, Labor, Tourism, Children, Youth and Families, and Game and Fish; the Motor Vehicle Division; the entire state judiciary; and the Public Regulation Commission. We have served the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and State Justice Institute and worked under grants from a number of private foundations.
